Yemen: UN report accuses Houthis of using Iranian fuel sales to finance war

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Fuel loaded at Iran’s ports has generated revenue that has allowed the Houthis to fund war efforts against the Saudi-backed government in Yemen, according to a report by a UN panel of experts.

The latest report of the Committee of Experts for 2018, it “revealed a few companies inside and outside Yemen acting as a front” of these operations using false documents confirming that the amounts of fuel are donations.

In its 85-page report sent to the UN Security Council, the committee said the fuel was “for the sake of someone on the list,” referring to the UN sanctions list.

The findings are likely to raise new questions about Iran’s support for the Houthis in the war that has pushed Yemen to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.
