UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — A poll shows that European citizens do not think that the EU can survive. The European Union will collapse in 20 years and could even lead to a civil war, even some of them believe.

Most Europeans fear that the EU will collapse over the next 20 years and one in three think it may even sink into civil war, according to a survey conducted by YouGov.

More than half of voters in countries such as France, Germany, Italy and Poland believe that the disintegration of the bloc by 2040 is a “realistic possibility”.

Their verdict is pessimistic as popular support for the European project reaches new heights across the continent due to the chaos caused by Brexit in the UK.

The figures are particularly impressive in Slovakia (66%) and France. In the latter country, 58% of those surveyed believe that the EU is at risk of or very likely to collapse over the next two decades.

Swedes, Danes and Spaniards are the only ones to be much less pessimistic.

In France and Poland, almost a third of those surveyed said that a war between the EU Member States was possible in the coming years.

The survey was conducted among voters in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Greece, the Czech Republic and Poland.
