UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — A study by the University of South Australia showed that drinking more than 6 cups of coffee per day increased the risk of heart disease by 22 percent.

The researchers discuss the risk of consuming too much caffeine, after the high mortality rate associated with drinking coffee in large quantities.

The study, based on UK Biobank data, involving 34,707 participants between the ages of 37 and 73, aims to see if some of us are more resilient to the effects of coffee than others.

The researchers focused on the gene of caffeine metabolism “CYP1A2”, which is believed to help improve the treatment of caffeine. They identified coffee consumption habits, which increased or reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The study found that having the CYP1A2 gene, which helped metabolize coffee four times faster than others, did not save them from the disadvantages of taking more than 6 cups of coffee.

In 2014, Chris Labouce, a cardiologist at McGill University, who was not part of the study, published an article in the Montreal newspaper that analyzed many studies of caffeine risk after the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning about caffeine consumption.

Lappus found that consuming too much coffee increases the risk of a heart attack by 50 percent.

The American Heart Association says there are pros and cons of coffee. It helps release fatty acids from tissues and stimulates the nervous system, but its effect on the kidneys can increase thirst with acid reflux.
