UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Iran may sink American warships sent to the Gulf region with missiles and “secret weapons,” a senior Iranian military official quoted Saturday by the semi-official Mizan news agency as saying.

The Iran is able to sink with missiles and “secret weapons” warships of the United States have sent in the region Gulf, told the news agency Mizan General Morteza Qorbani, an adviser to the Iranian military command.

“America … sends two warships to the area. If they make the slightest mistake, we will send them to the bottom of the sea with their crews and their planes using two missiles or two new secret weapons,” assured the general.

The United States announced on Friday (May 24th) the deployment of 1,500 additional troops in the Middle East in a “preventive” manner, describing the move as an effort to strengthen the defenses against Iran.

The measure was lambasted by the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“The increased US presence in our region is very dangerous and poses a threat to the international peace and security that must be faced,” Zarif said before leaving Pakistan for a visit.

US-Iranian tensions have mounted a notch following the US decision to recognize the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (GRI) as a terrorist organization. The Iranian Supreme National Security Council has in turn described the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization and the United States as the “sponsoring state of terrorism”.

Washington has already sent an aircraft carrier, B-52 bombers, a warship and Patriot missiles to the Gulf.

Pentagon chief Patrick Shanahan announced Thursday (May 23rd) that the United States is considering sending more troops to the Middle East to “improve US security forces” in the region.

According to the Pentagon, this is a response “to indications of an improvement in Iranian preparations for offensive operations against US forces and our interests.” The area of deployment of these means is kept secret.
