US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the United States was not seeking to spark a revolution in Iran but hoped for positive changes in the country.

“We want the authorities in Iran to listen to the demands of the people, but they have not done so for now, and we do not want to preempt,” she said in an interview with Fox News television.

Major cities in Iran, such as Mashhad, Isfahan and Risht since December 28, have seen widespread popular protests.

In this regard, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that these protests are an internal affair and that his country rejects incitement by foreign countries.

According to media reports, the death toll of the confrontations in Iran between demonstrators and police forces reached 20, as well as the arrest of Iranian authorities for more than 450 demonstrators in the capital Tehran.
