The fitness application Sweatcoin, invented by two Russians and allowing the crypto currency to be cleared during walks, turned out to be in the top of free AppStore applications.
Already in the first round, the company collected $ 6 million of investments and is currently planning to launch a global expansion.
The Sweatcoin application was launched from Russia by Oleg Fomenko in conjunction with Anton Derlyatka. His idea is to pay for the user performing physical exercises. As a means of payment, “sports crypto currency” is provided – Sweatcoin, a coin of which is generated per thousand steps of walking.
The received tokens can be used to purchase goods and services for a healthy lifestyle. For example, you can get a subscriber to the gym, a new fitness form or fitness tracker.
At the moment, the start-up in addition to the UK works in Ireland and the US, however, due to serious investments received from a number of venture funds, in the near future it is planned to expand into the markets of most European countries and Asian countries.
“We are changing the very foundation of the value that health and fitness bring, and we give people the motivation to live better,” the authors of the start-up note.
In the free version of the application, the daily wage rate is limited to five tokens, and having paid for the full version, you can earn as much as you want.
According to the creators of the application, the number of its users has already exceeded 2 million, and revenue only for the last quarter has increased almost threefold. At present, according to them, the receipt of tokens serves as one of the ways to motivate people to engage in their physical form.
But in the future, the organizers of the startup plan to add a full-fledged block, allowing them to exchange coins, buy and sell them.
Thus, Sweatcoin will acquire all the characteristics peculiar to digital currencies.
