UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Venezuelan government leaves the Organization of American States (OAS) after the decision of the OAS Permanent Council to recognize the representative of opposition leader Juan Guaido, the Latin American foreign ministry said.

Earlier, the Permanent Council of the OAS recognized the representative of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido in the organization.

“This is one of the saddest decisions taken … by the organization, as well as the vulgar use of blackmail and pressure on member states to meet the wishes of … Washington policy,” the statement said.

The ministry stressed that they refuse to “kneel before the imperial interests of the US administration.”

In mid-March, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the appointment of Juan Guaido’s ambassador to the United States, said ambassadors were appointed by the official governments of the UN countries, and in Venezuela, this is the government of the current president, Nicolas Maduro.

At the end of January, the United States accepted the appointment of Carlos Alfredo Vecchio, who was suggested by Guaido, as Charge d’Affaires of the Venezuelan Government in the United States. At the same time, the government of Maduro announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the United States.

In Venezuela, on January 21, mass protests began against President Nicolas Maduro, soon after he was sworn in. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself the interim head of state.

A number of Western countries, led by the United States, have recognized the recognition of Guayido. Maduro called the head of parliament a puppet of the United States. Russia, China, Turkey and a number of other countries supported Maduro as a legitimate president. Moscow called the “presidential status” of the Guaido non-existent.
