UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The US authorities are hindering the work of the Permanent Mission of Venezuela at the UN headquarters in New York, thereby violating its international obligations as host countries, said Venezuelan Permanent Representative to the UN Samuel Moncada.

“We can’t pay our employees because of the sanctions imposed by the United States against Venezuela. They intimidated banks and they refuse to work with us,” Moncada said at a press conference.

According to him, another part of the violations is related to restrictions on the movement of Venezuelan diplomats in the United States (travel is allowed only within 25 miles of New York), as well as the refusal to allow re-entry into the United States if diplomats left the country.

Earlier on Wednesday, US Vice President Mike Pence called on the UN to recognize Juan Guaido as head of Venezuela and said that the US Permanent Mission to the UN is already drafting a corresponding resolution, which, in addition to these provisions, will provide for the withdrawal of accreditation from the current representative of Venezuela to the UN appointed by the President Nicolas Maduro.

In January, mass protests began in Venezuela against the country’s legitimate president, Nicolas Maduro, soon after he was sworn in. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself the interim head of state.

A number of Western countries, led by the United States, announced recognition of Guaido. Russia, China, Turkey and others supported Maduro as a legitimate president. Moscow called the “presidential status” of the Guaido non-existent.
