US Treasury is imposing sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The US Treasury Department on Wednesday announced sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The ministry said in a statement on its website that Zarif was listed as “the list of persons with special classification in the Foreign Assets Control Department”.

Under this classification, the assets of listed individuals are frozen and Americans are barred from dealing with them.

On Tuesday, Zarif called on US President Donald Trump to reject the “thirst for war” with US national security adviser John Bolton.

“Remember, Iran has not won any war, but it has not lost any negotiations,” Zarif said in a tweet on Twitter.

“The Iranians have been able to withstand all the attacks for thousands of years.”

“Donald Trump, I reject the false history of B team and its thirst for war, diplomacy is wisdom, not weakness,” Zarif said.

Zarif calls “Group B” Bolton and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and he sees them pushing for war with Tehran.

Recent tensions between the United States and Gulf states on the one hand, and Iran on the other, have escalated following Tehran’s reduction of some of its commitments under the multilateral nuclear agreement of 2015.

Tehran took the step, a year after the United States pulled out of the deal and imposed tough sanctions on Tehran to force it to renegotiate its nuclear and missile programs.

Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, also accuse Iran of targeting Gulf oil vessels and installations, which Tehran denied and offered to sign a “non-aggression” pact with the Gulf states.
