US military helicopter crash in Okinawa, Japan, reports said on Wednesday. A U.S. CH-53 transport helicopter burst into flames when it landed around a military training area in Okinawa on Wednesday, the Japanese Defense Ministry said.

The helicopter’s crew was not injured in the incident that occurred in the Northern Training Area on Okinawa’s main island, Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told reporters.
Whether any civilians were affected has yet to be confirmed, Onodera added.

The local fire department received an emergency phone call at around 5:35 p.m. from a nearby resident who reported that a U.S. military aircraft had crashed and black smoke was visible.
The U.S. military training area has landing zones for choppers that are shared by U.S. military Osprey aircraft.
