UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Kremlin accuses the United States of stirring up tensions by sending bombers over its borders.
The Kremlin spokesman said on Thursday (March 21st) that the US strategic B-52 nuclear-capable bombing flights over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, near Russia’s borders, had created tensions in the region.
As tensions between Washington and Moscow escalated with the announced end of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, the United States sent bombers to Europe capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had deployed fighter jets to intercept a US B-52 strategic bomber while flying over the border areas of Russia. Russian fighters forced the B-52 US to leave the airspace of the Baltic Sea.
“In general, I will simply say that, of course, such actions by the United States do not contribute to strengthening the atmosphere of security and stability in the region directly adjoining the Russian borders,” said Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, to reporters during a conference call.
“On the contrary, they create additional tensions,” he warned.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly called on the Pentagon to stop the theft of these devices along Russian borders, but the US side refuses to comply.
