UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The United States imposed sanctions against 34 vessels and two companies that are involved in transporting Venezuelan oil to Cuba, the US Treasury said in a statement.

“Today, the Department of Foreign Investment Controls of the US Treasury (OFAC) imposed sanctions against two companies operating in the oil sector of the Venezuelan economy … Separately, OFAC also allocates 34 vessels as blocked ownership of Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA),” release of the Treasury.

“Cuba was the main force that caused the crisis in Venezuela,” the words of US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin are quoted in the release. According to him, the United States is taking measures against oil-transporting vessels and enterprises, which thus allegedly support Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

In Venezuela, on January 21, mass protests began against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after he was sworn in. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guaido illegally declared himself the interim head of state.

A number of Western countries, led by the United States, have recognized the recognition of Guayido. In turn, Maduro called the head of parliament a puppet of the United States. Russia, China, Turkey and a number of other countries supported Maduro as the legitimate president. Moscow called the “presidential status” of the Guaido non-existent.

On January 28, the United States announced the imposition of sanctions on PDVSA, the national oil and gas company of Venezuela, blocking the company’s assets and interests in its jurisdiction for $ 7 billion, and also banned transactions with them.

According to the White House, another 11 billion dollars will be losses in oil supplies. The contracts for the supply of Venezuelan oil should be completed before April 28, the US Treasury said.
