US envoy to North Korea will visit Japan and South Korea next week

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US special envoy to North Korea Stephen Pigeon will travel to Japan and South Korea next week to coordinate North Korea’s nuclear disarmament efforts, the State Department said in a statement on Friday.

Pigeon will be in Japan from Monday to Tuesday and in Seoul from Tuesday to Thursday, the statement said.

The Pigeon tour follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Saturday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said he is ready to resume stalled nuclear disarmament talks with the United States and will halt recent missile tests, some of them as soon as joint US military exercises are over. United with South Korea this month.

The State Department statement did not mention any talks with North Korea and the department did not respond to a question on whether such talks were on the agenda of Pigeon’s visit.
