UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The US-backed Democratic Syrian government said on Saturday that the Islamic state was in a final defeat in a pocket in the eastern province of Baguoz, ending the state of the “caliphate”.

“We tell the world about the disappearance of the alleged caliphate,” said Mustafa Bali, director of the media center of the Syrian Democratic Forces on Twitter. “The Baguoz has been liberated, and the military victory against the preacher is a check.”

Syria’s democratic forces have been waging attacks for weeks to control the enclave near the border with Iraq.

“We renew the pledge to continue the war and pursue their remnants until they are completely eliminated,” he said.

Although the defeat of the Islamic state in Baguoz ends the control of the organization over the vast territory it seized in 2014 at the time of the declaration of the state of the Caliphate, the militant organization remains a threat.

Some of the organization’s militants, who are holed up in remote areas of the Syrian desert, have also been out of sight in Iraqi cities where they launch shootings or kidnappings waiting for a chance to get out again.

The United States believes that the organization’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is in Iraq. Baghdadi was the one who declared the state of succession from the platform of the Grand Mosque of Nuri in Mosul in 2014.
