UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US Ambassador Peter Body, accompanied by the commander of US military command in Africa (Afrocom) Thomas Waldhauser, arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli under heavy guard on a working visit.
Our correspondent in Libya said that the head of the national reconciliation government, Fayez al-Sarraj, discussed with the American delegation the latest developments in Libya and issues of common concern within the framework of the regular consultation approach adopted by the two countries.
During the meeting, Al-Serraj talked about the efforts exerted to achieve national consensus “through his meetings with all the major Libyan parties, the most recent of which was to meet Abu Dhabi, to develop a vision to get out of the current crisis depends on the unification of the military and other sovereign institutions, The need for all parties to participate in the formulation of a consensual solution”.
According to the correspondent, the US ambassador renewed “US support for the government of national reconciliation, the consensual approach, and the steps taken in this direction.”
He referred to the follow-up and monitoring by AFRICOM forces to the militants of the Da’ash organization and to target them militarily in coordination with the Wifaq government within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to support the plan of the UN envoy Mr. Ghassan Salama to consolidate the democratic process through legislative and presidential elections paving the way for a comprehensive national conference, stressing that there is no military solution to the current Libyan crisis.
