Syria has called on the United Nations Security Council to live up to its responsibilities by dismantling the US-led coalition, after a series of air raids killed scores of civilians.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry made the call in two separate letters to the UN Secretary General and the Chairman of the UN Security Council.

The ministry said the United States was conducting air raids unlawfully without consent from Damascus.

It added that the targeting of residential neighborhoods with internationally banned white phosphorus munitions amounted to war crimes and was a flagrant violation of international law.

The US claims airstrikes against purported Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq have killed over 600 civilians since 2014.

However monitoring groups put the death toll at around seven-thousand.
