UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Washington cedes its primacy in space to China, announced the US Secretary of Defense, stating that the US government had launched only half of the number of rockets fired by China in 2018.
The United States has begun to lose its predominance in space by handing it over to China, said Patrick Shanahan, acting US Secretary of Defense.
According to him, China and Russia consider space as a zone to carry out military actions.
“China is developing rapidly and strengthening its presence in space,” he said during his speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington. He pointed out that the US government had launched half as many rockets as China in 2018.
Earlier, Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov said Moscow should respond to Washington’s move to militarize space. In 2018, the United States announced the creation of a sixth branch of their armed forces, the Space Force.0
