UN Security Council to meet Friday over North Korea missile launch, according to reports.

The U.N. Security Council will meet Friday to discuss North Korea’s latest missile launch, Reuters said, citing diplomats.

The meeting has been scheduled for 3 p.m. in New York, it said.

North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan early Friday (local time), just days after the U.N. Security Council adopted new sanctions against the regime over its sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3.

North Korea fired intermediate-range ballistic missile, U.S. PACOM says on Friday.

North Korea fired a missile on Friday that flew over Japan’s northern Hokkaido far out into the Pacific Ocean, South Korean and Japanese officials said, further ratcheting up tensions after Pyongyang’s recent test of a powerful nuclear bomb.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday was briefed shortly after North Korea launched a ballistic missile, the White House said.

Trump’s chief of staff John Kelly gave the briefing, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

The missile was launched from Pyongyang and flew some 3,700 kilometers over Japan into the North Pacific Ocean, according to South Korea’s military.
