Eight member countries of the UN Security Council have requested an emergency meeting in connection with the recognition of President Donald Tramp of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“In the light of today’s statement on the status of Jerusalem, the delegations of Bolivia, Egypt, France, Italy, Senegal, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Uruguay are asking the President to convene an emergency meeting of the Council by the end of this week with a briefing by the Secretary-General,” the joint statement says.

The UN headquarters reported that members of the Security Council will meet on December 8 in the morning.

Earlier, US Permanent Representative to the UN Nikki Haley said that recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, US President Donald Trump “recognized what everyone knows.”
