UN Secretary-General said that 2018 was the most negative for climate

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that 2018 was the most negative from the point of view of climate change in the history of observations.

“The year 2018 broke all records for negative indicators,” he said on Thursday, speaking at the closing of the One Planet Summit in Nairobi. “He became the fourth warmest year in the history of observations.”

According to the Secretary General, in 2018, all regions of the world were subjected to climatic destabilization – “from destructive typhoons in the Philippines and southern China to extreme drought in Argentina and South Africa.”

“To prevent further devastating effects, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we need rapid global transformations,” said Guterres. “By 2030, it is necessary to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 45% from 2010, and by 2050 zero emissions.”
