The United Nations (UN) condemns the United States embargo against Cuba.
The UN General Assembly adopted for the 26th time a resolution calling on the US to stop the financial and trade blockade of Cuba.
The author of the resolution was Cuba. For the adoption of the resolution, 191 countries voted, against the United States and Israel.
The United States imposed a blockade on Cuba in 1962. The resolution on the lifting of restrictions by the UN General Assembly has been considering since 1992.
Earlier, the US envoy to the United Nations said United States will vote against a UN General Assembly draft resolution calling for the lifting of U.S. economic and trade embargo on Cuba.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley made the threat ahead of the vote at the UN General Assembly.
She also said the General Assembly has no power to remove the embargo as it is a U.S. law. Dismissing the vote as “political theater,” she said only the U.S. Congress can lift the decades-old embargo.
