UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Members of the UK House of Commons supported the government’s proposal to postpone their country’s withdrawal from the EU until 30 June.
The House of Commons , which has rejected in recent days the agreement on Brexit proposed by Theresa May, as well as the possibility of withdrawing from the EU without agreement, spoke on Thursday in favor of the postponement of Brexit scheduled for March 29th.
412 deputies voted for and 202 voted against the idea of returning Brexit to June 30th.
The government must now send a request to the EU on a technical update of the Brexit date to June 30, if the House of Commons approves the draft Brexit terms agreement by March 20.
Earlier in the day, MEPs rejected an amendment on the organization of a new referendum on Brexit. They had previously voted against Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposed Brexit deal and the possibility of withdrawing from the EU without agreement.
The European Union is ready to postpone Brexit if London submits a duly motivated request by 29 March.
In the 2016 referendum, 52% of Britons voted for the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
