UAE to send palm seeds to Red Planet

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The UAE’s space agency said on Sunday it had decided to send palm seeds to the ISS to study its response to space conditions and weightlessness.

The seeds will be transported to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Dragon cargo ship, which is scheduled to be launched from the main space activities center of the United States in Ras Canaveral on Wednesday (July 24th).

The project aims to study the ability of seeds to absorb water in conditions of weightlessness, as well as to assess the potential of planting palm trees when humans move to Mars, where the seed will spend two months in space and then be planted on the ground, according to the site “The National” UAE.

The UAE has earlier announced its intention to build a human settlement on Mars. The scientific city of Mars Scientific City is being built in Dubai, where conditions will be created close to the conditions of the Red Planet.
