UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The strengthening of the US military presence in the Gulf region continues. The Pentagon has just sent two other warships, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, in addition to the ships already deployed there.
Two US destroyers equipped with guided missiles entered May 16 in the Persian Gulf, reports the USNI News maritime news site.

The two class destroyers Arleigh Burke, McFaul and Gonzalez, each capable of carrying up to 90 Tomahawk cruise missiles and missiles of other types, have already entered the Gulf, according to the source.
In addition, a Kearsarge amphibious assault ship capable of deploying 20 to 30 aircraft and helicopters including fifth-generation F-35B fighters is already deployed off the United Arab Emirates at the entrance to the Gulf.
The USS Arlington, capable of shipping nearly 700 military and 14 vehicles and armed with a battery of Patriot missiles, was also sent to the Middle East, “in response to indications of improved Iranian preparations to conduct offensive operations against US forces and our interests,” according to the Pentagon.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have increased since Trump’s announcement last May of the withdrawal of the United States from the 2015 agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and the gradual reestablishment of economic sanctions against Iran.
