File Anadolu Agency -- Turkish troops enter Syria's northwest Idlib.
On early Thursday, Jan. 18, Turkish forces has begun firing on YPG positions in Afrin, Syria, reports media in Turkey.

Earlier it was reported that the Turkish Armed Forces opened fire on Saturday on the positions of Syrian Kurds from the forces of the People’s Self-Defense Forces.

This was reported by the television channel Haberturk.

According to the channel, the fire was opened from artillery installations from the territory of the bordering Turkish province of Hatay in response to the shelling of Turkish territory.

Earlier on Saturday, President Tayyip Erdogan said that if “terrorists in Afrin do not surrender, then Turkey will destroy them.”

Ankara regards the PKK and the Syrian party “Democratic Union” as a branch of the banned Turkish Workers’ Party of Kurdistan.

Over the past months, Erdogan has repeatedly spoken about the possibility of conducting military operations against them in the Syrian canton of Afrin.
