Menagh Air Base, used by Washington to deliver weapons to the Kurds, was targeted by Turkish aviation during Operation Olive Branch in Afrin.

Turkish planes bombed Menagh airfield, located in northwestern Syria and used by the United States to deliver weapons to the Kurds, the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet announced.

The airbase was among 113 planned targets, including 108 were reached during Operation Olive Branch, in Afrine , launched Saturday. According to the Turkish staff, 72 aircraft took part in the air phase of this operation.

However, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said ground forces could participate in the operation on Sunday (January 21st).

“Tomorrow [Sunday, ed], as appropriate, land units of the armed forces of Turkey will join actions [to Afrine, ed] if necessary. They will act with the Free Syrian Army, “he said.

On Saturday, Ankara announced the launch of Operation Olive Branch against Kurdish armed groups in the Afrine area of ​​northern Syria. The People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) are regarded by Turkey as a Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), banned in the country of Anatolia.

Moscow expressed concern over the situation in the Afrine area and called on the parties to the conflict to exercise mutual restraint.
