UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US President Donald Trump said on Friday he wanted a good trade deal with China, but vowed at the same time that he would not hesitate to reject any deal he did not see well and meet his country’s interests.

“If it is not a good agreement, I will not sign it,” Trump told reporters before boarding the presidential plane to Alabama to inspect hurricane victims.

The two countries have been negotiating since the beginning of the year to reach an agreement ending their trade war that broke out last year and were translated into reciprocal customs duties worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlo has hinted that the United States could end negotiations if a good deal is not reached, adding that Washington did not hesitate to do so during negotiations with North Korea.

“I’m not saying it’s going to happen, and I’m not here to announce it,” the US official told CNBC. “I do not want to make a mistake.”

“We are all optimistic, but I repeat that our conditions must be met,” he said, recalling the objectives set by the Trump administration: structural changes by Beijing by ending practices that Washington considers dishonest, such as IP theft and technology transfer, .

Sources close to the White House said a meeting between the US and Chinese leaders could be held on March 27 at the end of a trip by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Italy and France.

At the end of last January, Trump addressed a possible meeting with the Chinese president to discuss the latest sticking points between the two sides.
