US President Donald Trump was not “well informed” about the issue when he pledged to build a wall along the border with Mexico, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly said in an interview with a newspaper.
Kelly said in an interview with the New York Times on Wednesday evening that he had met with Hispanic members of Congress to convince the president that there was no need to build a wall and that Trump’s position on the issue was one of the key slogans in his campaign.
Kelly was appointed six months ago to organize the situation after the chaotic beginnings of the Trump administration.
The newspaper said Kelly confirmed the statement that he considered it his duty to direct a man not sufficiently informed and did not occupy any public office in his life before being elected president.
