UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, late next month.

Trump said in response to questions from reporters at the White House on Monday that he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.

Asked about the message of Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo to Russia, which is scheduled to hold talks with the Russian leadership in Sochi on Tuesday, Trump said: “The message is that no one has taken a tougher stance toward Russia. We want to reach normalization with Russia, and it is worthwhile to normalize with Russia. ”

“There was no initiative by Washington” to hold a bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump in Osaka, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, said in response to Trump’s remarks.

Earlier, Assistant Russian President Yuri Ushakov said Washington had not asked Moscow for the meeting.

The G-20 summit will be held in Osaka on June 28-29.
