Trump does not rule out military action against Iran

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Donald Trump said in an interview on ITV that there was “always a chance” for the United States to engage in military action against Iran, but preferred to hold talks with President Hassan Rouhani.

In an interview with the British TV channel ITV , the US President has returned to a possible military confrontation with Iran, given the tense situation in the region.

“There is always a chance [of a military action against Iran, ed]. Do I want it? No, I would not prefer. But there is always a chance,” he said, adding that negotiations with the Iranian President were favored.

Donald Trump also recalled the beginning of his presidency and the US-Iran relations that his predecessor had left him. “Iran was an extremely hostile country when I took office … It was a terrorist country, the number one in the world, and it probably is still today.”

The leaders of these two nations have repeatedly stung and insulted since the election of Trump in 2016.

Tensions mounted a notch on April 8, when the United States placed the Revolutionary Guards, the Iranian ideological army, on their blacklist of “foreign terrorist organizations.”

Tehran, in turn, declared that “the US regime is a sponsor state for terrorism” and US forces deployed in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa and Central Asia as “terrorist groups”.

The dispatch of a US aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to the Gulf and the announcement of the deployment of 1,500 additional US troops in the Middle East in May have raised fears of a blaze in the region.
