UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US President Donald Trump promised Tuesday to help US farmers hit hardest by the US-Beijing trade war.
On Monday, China announced it would increase tariffs on thousands of US agricultural and industrial goods in response to Trump’s decision last week to raise tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of Chinese goods more than doubled.
“Our great national farmers will be the biggest beneficiaries of what is happening now,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“We hope China will continue to buy our wonderful and better agricultural products, but if that does not happen, your country will compensate the difference based on China’s very high purchases.”
Since last year, the trade war has severely damaged US agricultural exports to China and has affected the industrial sector in both countries.
Trump last year offered $ 12 billion to US farmers as compensation and promised to do more with revenue from the new tariffs, which Trump said was wrongly blamed by China rather than US imports.
Trump launched the trade war last year to force China to carry out major economic reforms and reduce the huge US trade deficit.
