Trump congratulated Egyptian President al-Sisi on re-election

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – President of the United States Donald Trump congratulated the acting head of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on re-election for the second term of office, the press service of the head of Egypt said.

“President Trump expressed sincere congratulations to al-Sisi on the victory in the presidential election, noting that the final results demonstrated the trust of the Egyptian people to the president of the country,” the document says. Trump also said “the US desire to develop strategic relations with Egypt, as well as continue coordination and consultations between the two countries on issues of mutual interest,” the report said.

On Monday, the National Electoral Commission of Egypt announced the final results of the presidential elections, according to which Al-Sisi received about 22 million votes, which is 97% of the total number of voters.

Rival As-Sisi – little-known politician Musa Mustafa Musa scored 2.92% of the votes of Egyptian citizens.

Voting in the presidential elections in Egypt was held for three days – from 26 to 28 March. Abroad, voters could vote from 16 to 18 March. A total of about 59 million voters are registered in the country.

The newly elected president of Egypt will take the oath before the House of Representatives in early June 2018, after which the countdown of his second term will begin.
