Trump asks whether Powell is a “worse enemy” than the Chinese president

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — US President Donald Trump on Friday questioned whether Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell was a “worse enemy” than Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“As usual, the Fed has done nothing,” Trump said on Twitter, following a speech by Powell promising to take appropriate steps to ensure the continued expansion of the US economy.

But as Beijing stepped up reprisals in the trade war with Washington, Powell warned that trade tensions were exacerbating the global slowdown and the bank had no “specific measures” to deal with uncertainty.

In his expected speech, Powell made it clear that the central bank has only limited tools to counter the trade war.

Trump expressed his anger “because they speak without knowing what I’m doing or asking.”
