President of the United States Donald Trump appealed to the lower house of the country’s congress with a letter in which he asked to increase the country’s defense spending for next year in connection with the situation around North Korea and Afghanistan, reported by the press service of the White House.

In his letter, Trump requested $4 billion to support urgent anti-missile measures to counter the threat from North Korea, as well as $1.2 billion to support the “my administration in South Asia” strategy.

Trump specified that additional funding is needed to increase the US military contingent in Afghanistan by 3.5 thousand people.

In addition, the US leader asked for another $700 million to repair the US Navy ships “John McCain” and “Fitzgerald.”

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Donald Trump agreed to exert maximum pressure on the DPRK to end its nuclear development.

In turn, the head of the Pentagon, James Mattis, said that the US will send more than three thousand troops to Afghanistan.
