UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The chaos in Libya after an attack by Libya’s national army chief Khalifa Khafar has increased the risk of terrorists on boats bound for Italy, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said, adding that the country’s ports would remain closed.
“The infiltration of Islamic terrorists is no longer a danger, but it is certain: so I have to repeat that it will not allow ships to be anchored on Italian beaches,” he said in a radio interview on Wednesday.
Salfini, leader of the anti-immigration party, refused to say whether Italy’s position would change in the event of a full-scale war in Libya after chaos has raged in the country since the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
