According to the latest information, the number of victims of the railway accident in South Africa reached 18 people, more than 250 people were injured of varying severity.
The emergency happened on a site between settlements Hennenman and Kroonstad: the passenger train and the lorry collided.
As noted the local police, the truck driver was unable to brake in time and crashed into the first and second cars of a passenger train following from the city of Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg.
According to eyewitnesses, some of the cars left the rails and caught fire. The rescue services are operating on site. The causes and circumstances of the disaster are being refined.
