Syrian Kurds condemn Turkey’s plans for operation east of Euphrates

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The self-proclaimed Federation of Northern Syria (Rojava) condemned Turkey’s statement about its readiness to launch an operation in Syria to the east of the Euphrates, the federation said.

Earlier, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey would launch a military operation east of the Euphrates in northern Syria and notified Russia and the United States of this.

“The Turkish state constantly and for a long time threatens aggression in the regions of the Federation of northern Syria,” the document says.

“We strongly condemn these irresponsible threats of the Turkish regime and confirm that the federation in all its ethnic diversity will stick together in the face of these threats and fight them,” the statement says.

According to the document, the federation stands for the unity of Syrian territory and its people.

Earlier, Erdogan said that Ankara is ready to launch an operation in the east of the Euphrates, as well as in Manbidge against the Syrian Kurdish self-defense forces, if the United States does not withdraw them from there. He later said that he had decided to postpone the start of the military operation in Syria after a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on December 14 last year, following which the US president decided to withdraw troops from Syria.

The Federation of Northern Syria (Rojava) was proclaimed by a number of Kurdish organizations in March 2016 in the territory not controlled by Damascus in northern Syria near the border with Turkey. Damascus did not recognize its creation. About 4.6 million people live in Syrian Kurdistan, of which 2.5 million are Kurds.
