SYRIA (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Russia has been assisting Syrian troops in their counterterrorism operation in Jabal Zawiya, south of Idlib.
Combat aircraft of the Russian and Syrian Air Forces began this afternoon to bomb several positions of terrorists in Jabal Zawiya, south of Idlib, to give a boost to the advance of the troops of the Syrian regular army in this mountainous region.
According to a military source near Hama, “the Syrian army received a major helping hand during the ongoing battle in Huwayz, a village belonging to Qalaat al-Madiq, when Russian and Syrian planes began bombing terrorist positions”.
The source added that the Syrian army had reintegrated Huwayz since the axis of al-Hamra.
If the Syrian Army retakes control of Huwayz from the terrorists, it will be a few hundred meters from the Turkish Army Observation Post, located southwest of Jabal Zawiya.
Jabal Zawiya is an important mountain located in the southern part of Idlib. The mountain has been completely under terrorist control since the Maarat al-Nouman offensive in 2012.
Earlier in the day, Tiger forces, an elite corps of the Syrian army, launched a major attack on the terror-controlled city of al-Hamra, near a airstrip in al-Sharia.
After a fierce battle with the terrorists, the Syrian army managed to regain control of both sites while moving north to secure the area.
According to a source on the ground, Tiger forces launched a burst of missiles at enemy positions, inflicting heavy losses on Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s terrorists.
