UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Syrian foreign ministry sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council on the statements made by US President Donald Trump on Washington’s recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stressed that “the occupied Golan is an integral part of the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic and that its restoration from the Israeli occupation by all means guaranteed by international law remains a priority in the Syrian national policy and it is an eternal right that will not be subject to compromise or compromise.”
Damascus called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations “to issue an unequivocal official position in which he affirmed the firm position of the international organization on the issue of the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Arab Golan.”
It also called on the UN Security Council to “take practical measures to ensure its exercise of its direct role and mandate in the implementation of the resolutions calling for the Israeli occupying entity to withdraw from the entire occupied Syrian Golan to the line of 4 June 1967, in particular resolutions 242, 338 and 497.”
The Syrian foreign ministry described Trump’s remarks as “irresponsible and dangerous.” And stressed that “the US administration does not have the foolishness and arrogance any right or mandate to decide the fate of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan and any recognition of any action or any violation of the right of Syria to restore and sovereignty over it is illegal and has no effect.
This comes in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement that “the time has come” for Washington to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
