The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the anti-government protests in Iran, describing them as a “conspiracy,” while underlining that Iran had the means to thwart this conspiracy,  reports state news agency SANA.

The ministry said in a statement that the Syrian government strongly condemned the position of the United States and Israel in the current protests in Iran.

He stressed that these countries were playing a “destructive role” in disrupting peace and stability in the region, “in order to control their resources”.

The ministry also attributed the US and Israeli actions to their desire “to weaken the regional axis of resistance, following the failure of their plots and the defeat of terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq”.

Iran has been a major contributor to the failure of Western plots in Syria, the ministry said.

At the same time, the ministry also renewed its support for Iran, saying that Iranian sovereignty should be respected without any intervention in its internal affairs.

“Syria has confidence in Iran, and is confident that Tehran will defeat this plot and continue on the path of development,” he said.
