Syria: Ankara and Washington launch the “safe zone”

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Turkish and US Defense Ministers yesterday had a phone call yesterday and agreed to launch today, Thursday, August 22, the first phase of the establishment of a “security zone” in Syria.

Hulusi Akar and Mark Esper also agreed that military delegations from both countries will meet soon in Ankara to discuss next steps for the establishment of this “security zone,” a statement from the Turkish Ministry of Defense said.

Akar stressed that the “security zone” east of the Euphrates in Syria should be established within the framework of the principles set by the timetable set in advance and without wasting more time, says the statement of the Turkish Ministry .

The Turkish and US military authorities reached an agreement on August 7 that a “security zone” in northern Syria, 30 to 40 km deep, will be created along the Turkish-Syrian border line. . Ankara would like to drive away Kurdish militiamen on Syrian soil from Turkish borders.

Spokesman for the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, said that in accordance with this agreement with Washington, Turkish-US joint military patrols will soon carry out their missions in areas east of the Euphrates.

The conclusion of this Turkish-American agreement at the time of the release by the Syrian army and its allies of new localities in Idlib and Hama testifies to Ankara’s return to its previous positions.

Which means that for fear of losing these observation posts that previously allowed him to monitor the region and help the terrorist groups, Ankara has come to beg Washington, and it does not matter if it violates its commitments made in the framework of the Sochi and Astana Agreements.
