UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Sweden’s prosecutor has filed a request for the arrest of Julian Assange, who was jailed in Britain, for issuing a European arrest warrant for the founder of WikiLeaks, accused of rape in 2010 in Sweden.

She asked Assistant Attorney General Eva Maria Pearson “to order the court to issue an order in absentia for the arrest of Assange on suspicion of rape,” asserting that if the request for arrest, a European arrest warrant will be issued to enable the deportation of Asang to Sweden.

The application was submitted to the Uppsala Court, which must rule on the matter no later than the day after it received it.

The Swedish inquiry was opened on May 13 in the case, which has not been ruled for nearly a decade, and is denounced by Assange, 47, as a maneuver aimed at deporting him to the United States where he is required to leak classified US documents.

Assange was arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London on 11 April after Quito withdrew his right to asylum. He was sentenced to 50 weeks’ imprisonment for violating his conditions of reserve detention while taking refuge in the embassy in 2012 to avoid being deported to Sweden where he was charged with two counts of sexual assault, one of which fell into a statute of limitations.

“If there is a conflict between the European arrest warrant and the US deportation request note , the British authorities have to make a decision in view of the priority,” Pearson said.

In July 2010 WikiLeaks published about 70,000 classified documents on the operations of the International Coalition in Afghanistan, about 400,000 in October of the same year on the US invasion of Iraq, and also about 250 thousand diplomatic cables.
