About 50 people aboard the boat were missing and possibly dead, survivors from a boat sank off the coast of Libya said on Tuesday.

The Libyan Coast Guard rescued about 300 migrants from three boats off the coast on Tuesday but one of the boats sank and the Coast Guard found only 16 survivors.

“At about 10 am we found the boat of migration, unfortunately, it was completely drowned … We found about 16 migrants alive and the rest were missing,” said Nasser al-Qamoudi, Sabratha patrolman. “Unfortunately, we did not find any of the bodies or survivors.” .

A number of nuns returned by the Coast Guard to a naval base in Tripoli said there were originally about 70 people aboard the boat when it sailed near the city five to the east of the capital. Two other boats were found off the coast of Zawia, west of Tripoli.
