UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Five people, including a cameraman, were killed on Wednesday in a double suicide attack on a military post in southern Somalia, a security source said.
With the movement of “youth” claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place in the town of Otigli, according to the site, “Somali Memo” calculated.
According to the movement’s statement, the attack took place two car bombs, the first targeted the entrance to the military post, and minutes later a second car broke into the center and exploded inside.
The movement said the double attack led to “significant casualties among government forces”, without specifying numbers.
A security source confirmed, to Anatolia, that the preliminary toll refers to the killing of four elements from both sides, as well as Abdul Nasser Abdali, who was working as a photographer for the voice of the Somali army radio.
The source, preferring not to be named, said that Nasser was covering security operations of special government forces in villages and towns in the province of Lower Shabelle, southern Somalia.
In a related context, Radio Voice of the Army, on Wednesday, killed 17 members of the “youth” and wounding 10 others, including the movement’s spokesman Sheikh Ali Mahmoud Raghi (Ali Tairi) in a security operation in the province of Lower Shabelle.
The radio pointed out that the operation targeted members of the movement were accompanied by a car carrying Ali Tairi, in the town of Cham, located between the city of Otegli and the town of Berri in the region.
Special government forces regained control of the city a week ago, following a surprise attack on fighters of the movement they controlled.
