UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — A Syrian Air Force Su-22 aircraft has been hit without much damage by a portable ground-to-air missile launch, reports Gazeta, quoting a military expert.

Syrian terrorists have tried to shoot down a Su-22 plane from government forces in Idlib governorate , the military expert Yuri Liamine was quoted by Gazeta newspaper as saying.

Referring to sources on the ground, Mr.Liamine said the fighter-bomber had been targeted by a portable anti-aircraft missile launcher.

“Even though the aircraft was damaged, pro-government sources claim that the pilot managed to get the plane back to the airbase and land safely,” says the expert.

The Su-22 is today the main aircraft used by the Syrian Air Force. At the beginning of the crisis in 2011, the army had 50, while at present there are only twenty.

Developed in the late 1960s in the Soviet Union, the Su-22 is capable of reaching a speed of 2,230 km / h, and its range of action covers about 600 kilometers.
