UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Steel production in the world in January 2019 amounted to 146.705 million tons, an increase of 1% compared with the same period of 2018 (145.183 million tons), follows from the World Steel Association (WSA).
In January, Russia reduced steel production by 4.5% to 5.79 million tons, Kazakhstan – by 5.5% to 360 thousand tons. Ukraine reduced output by 4.9% to 1.85 million tons of steel.
The steel output in the European Union countries in January fell by 3.5% to 13.802 million tons, while France reduced production by 9.7% to 1.238 million tons, Italy – by 3.6% to 1.959 million tons. Germany produced 3.41 million tons of steel (a decline of 7.2%), Spain – 1.18 million tons (an increase of 5.9%).
North America, according to the WSA, increased steel output by 7.3% to 10.512 million tons, in particular the United States – by 11% to 7.647 million tons. South America increased its production by 2.5% to 3.637 million tons of steel, including Brazil – by 2.3% to 2.933 million tons.
Asian countries produced 102.554 million tons of steel in the first month, which is 2.3% more than in the same period a year earlier. China produced 75.013 million tons (an increase of 4.3%). 1.22 million tons of steel were produced in Africa (down 5.4%), 3.226 million tons in the Middle East (almost unchanged), Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) 523 thousand tons (minus 5, 2%).
Following the results of 2018, steel production in the world amounted to almost 1.809 billion tons, an increase of 4.6% compared with 2017.
