JAPAN – Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly Kim Yong Nam called on Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear and missile programs.
Shinzo Abe had a short conversation with Kim Yong Nam on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Pyongyang, South Korea’s Kyodo News reported.
During the meeting, Abe noted the need to resolve the issue of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korean intelligence in the 1970s.
No details were given on the North Korean official’s response. It is only indicated that Abe shook hands with Kim Yong Nam.
The meeting is the first of its kind at the leadership level of North Korea and Japan.
