Turkey’s military activity against the Syrian Kurds can breathe new life into the grouping of the Islamic State group, since it was the fight against the IS that was the main goal for which the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were created, the SDF general command said.
Earlier on Saturday, the Turkish General Staff announced the launch of Operation Olive Branch against the armed groups of Kurds in Syrian Afrin.
The operation began at 14.00. According to the General Staff, 72 aircraft participated in it, 108 of 113 targets were hit.
“Syrian Democratic Forces” is a peaceful movement focused on defeating the IS and on ensuring stability in Syria, which is coordinated with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
We have no hostility to anyone other than the IS, which, thanks to our heroic fighters, has already received one foot (of land) for its grave,” the statement of the SDF General Command, which was received by RIA states.
As the group notes, “we are now conducting an operation in the east of Syria in order to defeat the IS once and for all.”
“We lost a lot of heroes in the battles against the IS even in the last 24 hours. Our operation is in a decisive phase and we are ready to finish, but sudden and unjustified offensive operations from Turkey to Afrin threaten to breathe new life into the IS.”
The SDF also denied the allegations that its fighters allegedly fired Turkey – the group claims it has no plans to attack Turkish territory, and such accusations against it are needed only as a “pretext for Turkey to bring its armed forces and its extremist opposition groups on the Syrian land.” SDF urged Turkey to stop its actions.
