UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Scientists at the Cancer Research Institute in Britain have discovered that mannose sugar, which is used as a dietary supplement, can slow the growth of malignancies and increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy.

According to EurekAlert, the researchers added manoz sugar to the water and gave it to laboratory rats suffering from various types of cancer directly through the mouth, showing that it slowed the growth of tumors without having a side effect.

In the second phase of the study, mice were treated with cisplatin and doxorubicin used in chemotherapy. Manoz sugar not only slowed the growth of malignant tumors, but also extended the life of mice.

As is known, cancer cells need glucose to grow, while mannose sugar can prevent the intake of carbohydrates into cancer cells without preventing healthy tissue from doing so.

This effect of sugar manoz has been tested by scientists on various malignant tumor cells, including leukemia, bone sarcoma, ovarian cancer, and intestines.

Some cells interacted with manoz, while others continued to multiply and grow, so scientists decided to continue their studies in order to find out why the selective effect of sugar on infected cells, and how effective this sugar in the treatment of humans with cancer.
