SAUDI ARABIA (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Saudi security forces killed eight people during an operation in the mainly Shiite region of Qatif in the east of the kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

From time to time, Qatif witnesses clashes between government forces and Shiites complaining of marginalization and discrimination.

Saudi authorities deny ill-treatment.

The operation was carried out in the town of Tarot in Qatif and targeted a “newly formed terrorist cell,” the agency said in a statement. “None of the occupants, pedestrians, or security personnel were injured.”

“The relevant security forces are still operating at the site,” the agency said.

According to Saudi media, the security services regularly carry out operations in this area and reports of deaths in these operations have been reported.
